What is "retention"
When we say your backups are “retained for 90 days,” it just means we hold onto a recoverable copy for three months before it rolls off. And the very last version of anything? We keep that for good.
What about your computer?
We don’t back up the laptop or PC itself, and here’s the good news: we don’t need to. Your files don’t really live on your computer; they live in OneDrive and SharePoint, which are backed up.
So if a laptop is ever hit by ransomware, we isolate it, wipe it clean, and rebuild it and your files come straight back from the backup, not the machine.

Isn't my data already safe in Microsoft 365?
Not in the way most people assume. Microsoft keeps its platform running, but it won’t always bring back a file that’s been deleted, overwritten or caught by ransomware and once it’s gone, it’s usually gone for good. Cloud storage keeps your files handy; a backup lets you get them back. Backup Lite is your backup.
How often are my files backed up?
Every 24 hours, 7 days a week, automatically. It runs quietly in the background at a different time each day, so there’s nothing for you or your team to remember or trigger.
How far back can you recover something?
We keep your backups for 90 days, so you’ve got a full three months to recover anything lost or changed by mistake. And we never throw away the last copy of a file, even if it was last touched two years ago and then deleted, we’ve still got it.
What happens if a laptop gets ransomware?
We don’t back up the computer itself, and we don’t need to. That’s because your files will live in OneDrive and SharePoint, not on the machine. If a laptop is hit, we isolate it, wipe it clean and rebuild it, and your files come straight back from the backup. The device is replaceable; your data is protected.
Are my backups actually secure?
