What is hybrid cloud?

Essentially, this means that you store some of your things on the public cloud – offered by companies like Amazon and Microsoft – and the other bits on a private cloud or internal server.

It’s a popular choice for SMEs who want to explore the cloud but who aren’t quite ready (for various reasons) to transition to a full-blown cloud solution. A hybrid environment is great for those who aren’t sure about putting large amounts of data in the public cloud.

The benefits of hybrid cloud.

Best of both worlds.

Small, home office businesses have already made the switch to the cloud and rely on public cloud services for their email, security services, productivity apps and data storage.

However, for larger enterprises and SMEs, who need to securely store large amounts of data, this may not be a viable option for them at the moment.

A hybrid solution is a bridge between both scenarios, which means that you can reap the benefits of both worlds.

Security.

Additionally, a hybrid cloud environment provides a low risk of data exposure.

Again, you can customise it to fit with your team and how they work, using your internal server to store sensitive data and the public cloud to host general apps.

However, it must be noted that the public cloud offers multiple layers of security and is often more secure than the server sitting in your office. This is because cloud companies pour large amounts of money into ensuring their customers’ data remains private.

Scale up and down with ease.

One of the main advantages of a hybrid cloud solution is its flexibility. Not only can you scale up and down depending on your businesses demands, but you can also choose a strategy that suits your business’ distinct needs.

There are many different types of cloud services – it’s all about finding out what works best for your team. An experienced IT consultant will be able to help you discover this.

Preservation of capital.

What’s more, hybrid eliminates the need for businesses to make huge capital expenditures when they need more storage or capabilities.

Small businesses and startups benefit greatly from hybrid as everything fluctuates at the beginning when you’re just finding your feet. This preservation of working capital enables you to invest your pennies in other areas of your company. And, who wouldn’t want that?
