How To Save Money on IT in 2021

With so many technology solutions out there, it can be easy for small and medium businesses to quickly rack up their IT bill. Many spend £100s and £1000s per year on platforms, apps, software and hardware and still feel like they have to spend more and sign up to the latest new and fandangled app on the market to keep up with the Joneses.

Here are a few ways to tighten the purse strings and focus on the technology that is right for your business.

Review the tech and software you’re currently paying for in your business.

Many businesses signed up to software subscriptions and packages at the beginning of the March lockdown in 2020, but as circumstances change, you may be paying for technology you no longer use.

Make a list of the programmes you regularly use. Are there any applications you signed up to months ago that you no longer need? Are you paying for a subscription that you’ve never properly used?

Also, consider who is using these apps and platforms. Does every person in your business need an account on every platform, or can you reduce costs by only paying for the users who use the app regularly?

You may be surprised how much money a regular software spending review saves you.

Research new technology.

Now that you have narrowed down your list of software and applications, it’s time to look at areas that could potentially be improved by investing in new software.

By spending your cash more wisely on technology that works with you and not against you, you’ll not only save time but also money in the long run.

For example, it could be more cost-efficient to subscribe to Office 365 and benefit from a suite of tools – file storage, productivity software, video conferencing, instant messaging and more – than be subscribed to several different programmes with different companies.

Managed IT Services.

Working with a Managed IT Services provider (yes, that’s us!) could save you a lot of stress, as well as money.

Firstly, you’ll know you’re only going to get one-fixed cost at the end of each month. A good Managed Services provider will also work with you to look at areas that you could increase your efficiency and lower your overall IT expenditure. Lastly, instead of waiting for your technology to break and being landed with a hefty invoice, you can rely on your provider to proactively monitor your business tech and spot any problems before things go wrong and cause business downtime.
