How To Get Started With OneNote

Microsoft OneNote is a digital note-taking app, and one that is often overlooked when it comes to the Microsoft Suite. But, this powerful little app is full of surprises. With OneNote, you can create, share and collaborate on digital notebooks full of handwritten notes, drawings, screen clippings, audio commentaries and more.

Get Started With OneNote

In our opinion, it’s one of the best ways to take notes; even if you’re a pen and paper person, thanks to the nifty handwriting capability! We’ve rounded up some ways to get started and make the most out of OneNote.

Everything is accessible.

Have you ever spent far too long on trying to find some crucial notes in your notebook? Or, maybe realised that the notes you made for today’s meeting are at home?

OneNote saves you the stress.

You can access your notes from anywhere, on any connected device – laptop, tablet or phone. Even if you’ve handwritten your digital notes, you can use the search function to quickly lookup keywords and find precisely what you’re looking for.

Get creative.

If you love a bit of organisation (we know we do), you can customise your OneNote by dividing into Sections; similar to physical dividers in a folder or notebook. Sections can also be colour-coded, some of you will be excited to know.

Turn your scribbles into legible notes.
The Ink to Text function is really useful for those who think better when handwriting their notes and drawings.

You can turn what would otherwise be scribbles into text with the Ink to Text and Ink to Shape features – brilliant if you need to share your notes with colleagues or clients.

Share and collaborate.

What’s truly powerful about OneNote is its integration with other Microsoft products like Teams. Everything is at your fingertips for you and your team to swap ideas and work together on projects.

This feature is also perfect for sharing meeting agendas or following up meetings instantly with the notes.

So get sharing!

Calculate quickly.

Is there anything OneNote can’t do? Yep, that’s right, it can calculate your sums for you, even if you handwrite them.

Grab text from images.

Of course, you can add images into your notebooks with OneNote, but what about when you need to access text from inside an image? The “Copy Text from Picture” function allows you to do just that.

Create a To-Do list.

Who doesn’t love a checklist? With OneNote, you can easily create tasks and tick them off as you go. But, what’s really clever is that it links up to your Outlook Calendar so you can connect your Calendar appointments to your to-do list.
